InZoi vs. Minecraft Modding

If you’ve been watching the recent CurseForge newsletters, you already know they’ve been pushing InZoi hard for four straight months. As a longtime Minecraft content creator, I’ve noticed my CurseForge revenue gently sliding even though my overall traffic remains high. That got me wondering: Is it time to add InZoi to my gamefolio—both for recreation and modding? This post compares Minecraft and InZoi in terms of player popularity, modding potential, and creator value. Here’s the full rundown.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Player Base Comparison

Minecraft: Over 204 million monthly active players as of late 2024, with a presence on PC, mobile, and consoles [1]. It’s an absolute titan.

InZoi: Launched in March 2025, it sold over 1 million copies in its first week and hit about 87k concurrent Steam players at launch [2]. Now? Daily active users have dropped to a few thousand [3].

🔧 Modding Ecosystem

  • Minecraft: Over 224,000 mods on CurseForge alone. Modding is community-driven, decentralized, and spans massive categories: tech, magic, worldgen, QoL, and more [4].
  • InZoi: A few hundred cosmetic mods (outfits, furniture) available via integrated in-game CurseForge support [5]. Deep modding (gameplay scripting, new interactions) is coming later in 2025 [6].

💰 Monetization Potential

  • Minecraft: Long-tail earnings via CurseForge Reward Program, Patreon, ad sites, and YouTube tie-ins. However, high saturation means newer projects struggle for visibility.
  • InZoi: Less revenue today but higher visibility if you enter early. Krafton is hosting modding contests ($11K in prizes) [7] and the developer is hungry for creator engagement.

🟩 Minecraft: Pros and Cons

  • ✅ Massive player base = enormous reach
  • ✅ Mature modding tools and huge creative freedom
  • ❌ Very crowded modding space
  • ❌ Mod installation for players still clunky compared to native integration

🟦 InZoi: Pros and Cons

  • ✅ Integrated modding UI = no friction for players
  • ✅ Ground floor entry for modders = easy visibility
  • ✅ Realistic visuals for creators who enjoy lifelike 3D work
  • ❌ Very small current player base
  • ❌ Mods mostly limited to cosmetics (for now)
  • ❌ Reliance on CurseForge/Epic ecosystem irks some players

🎯 My Takeaway

InZoi isn’t here to replace Minecraft—at least not yet. But with CurseForge investing effort into promoting it, the low competition and high early visibility make it a worthwhile experiment. I’ll be adding some InZoi content to my gamefolio to test the waters, but Minecraft still holds the crown for reach, depth, and proven community longevity.
