I saw this demo and just had to jump on it. It is an incremental game about digging. It uses an unforced node-buster skill tree system. Which means that some unlocks unlock other things behind themselves, and you can choose not to fully upgrade that skill and instead upgrade the ones that are unlocked by the partial upgrade. Loads of games force you to entirely max out a skill on the nodebuster tree, not this one, and I found that very refreshing. Onboard is a tiny bit meh, but you get used to it really fast when you realize the mouse is all you need to control the main character. You can literally flip your keyboard and use it to paddle a river, and it will have no effect on your main dude on the screen.
The gameplay is smooth, the music is, oh my god, dude, the dev must be a Gen Xer like myself because it’s elevator music. Annoying, and I would’ve liked the option to turn it off or switch it to something else. I commented that I thought maybe they didn’t want to pay for music and so looked into the open-source MIDI archives.
Sans that, most of the time when you bought a skill, encountering its activation in the game screen made it feel like a milestone achievement, and I found that really enjoyable too.
I want the dev to release it now; it’s that good. 🙂
